-I'm not much for blogging, but you have to start somewhere, I suppose.
-Recent Cornell grad (Go Big Red!).
-I work in publishing (entry-level, but, again, gotta start somewhere!).
-I'm a big reader (surprise, surprise) who loves both literary and commercial fiction (the latter being preferred).
-Also a cinaphile. I can't even begin to name all my favorites...too many to count, what with my taste being so eclectic.
-Currently working on a novel of my own. The goal? Um, to finish? Writing is one of the most thrilling and tough jobs to have.
-Being in publishing, I swear to never so these annoying, stupid things (and I advise anyone else not to do the same). Never ever:
a) Ask an author where he/she gets an idea.
b) Tell an author, "Oh, I've always wanted to write a
book. But I can never find the time."
c) Tell an author, "I have this great idea! Why don't we
partner up, with me giving you the idea and you
writing it?"
d) Try to slip your manuscript to an author (Particularly
in odd venues such as bathroom stalls...Yes, that has
actually happened to an author I know).
e) Knock an author's genre. Reading a few bad novels
does not mean the whole genre's bad. Tsk, tsk, really,
you should know better than that (ahem, romance
author bashers who've read, I don't know, maybe ONE
novel in that genre!).
